Position Summary
The Senior DC Business Partner is the dedicated connection point between Procurement Operations and Distribution Centre Operations. The role translates demand, supply and inventory signals into practical inbound and outbound operating plans, while aligning processes, decision rights, operating rhythms and performance priorities across the network. Through advanced analysis, structured problem-solving and influence without formal authority, the role improves receiving and put-away efficiency, smooths operational volume (inbound and outbound), strengthens execution discipline and enables faster resolution of cross-functional constraints.
Key Accountabilities
1. DC Partnership and Process Alignment
· Act as the primary Procurement Operations business partner for Distribution Centre leaders, establishing clear points of contact, escalation paths and decision rights across the national network.
· Build a structured voice-of-the-DC mechanism so recurring operational pain points are translated into the Procurement Operations improvement roadmap and vice versa.
· Facilitate regular cross-functional operating reviews that convert risks and performance gaps into clear owners, actions, due dates and escalation decisions.
· Create and maintain a DC segmentation model that differentiates planning approaches based on site constraints, automation, product mix, throughput and network role.
2. Receiving Efficiency, Inventory Flow and Operational Readiness
· Identify and implement process improvements with DC and Planning teams to balance inbound and outbound workloads, reduce volume peaks, congestion and idle capacity, and protect customer service and financial commitments.
· Identify systemic issues and coordinate corrective actions with the appropriate process owners, balancing service, inventory, cost, capacity and execution risk.
· Partner with DC teams to improve the flow of inventory from receiving through put-away, ensuring planning parameters and purchase decisions support efficient storage and replenishment.
3. Operational Excellence, Analytics and Continuous Improvement
· Define an integrated performance framework linking planning and DC indicators, including inbound lines, receiving productivity, put-away cycle time, urgent PO lines, schedule adherence, order modality, volume variability and outbound readiness.
· Conduct advanced root-cause analysis and process mapping to distinguish isolated incidents from systemic opportunities and prioritize improvement efforts based on value and operational impact.
· Lead cross-functional improvement initiatives from problem definition through implementation, adoption, benefits validation and transition to sustainable ownership.
· Develop and support scenario playbooks for DC disruptions, recalls, shortages, major launches, diversions and network transitions with relevant stakeholders.
· Partner with Finance to quantify the value of improved flow, including labour productivity, avoided overtime, reduced rework and service level protection.
· Identify opportunities to simplify, automate or digitally enable planning and DC partnership processes using current systems, workflow automation and AI-enabled tools.
4. General Responsibilities
· Perform complex analysis requiring high business acumen and integrate operational, customer, inventory, service and financial considerations into recommendations.
· Shape future-state operating models and lead strategic workstreams requiring alignment across functions and levels of leadership.
· Provide coaching, knowledge transfer and practical guidance to planners, analysts and operational partners, including support for super-user and centre-of-excellence capabilities.
· Communicate recommendations to senior leaders and act as a credible spokesperson for DC partnership priorities, risks and improvement plans.
Qualifications and Experience
· Bachelor’s degree in operations management, industrial engineering, business analytics or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
· 7+ years of relevant experience in distribution operations, inbound logistics or operational excellence.
· Demonstrated experience connecting planning decisions to warehouse capacity, receiving, put-away, order fulfilment or transportation execution.
· Experience leading cross-functional process improvement, root-cause analysis and performance-governance initiatives.
· Advanced analytical capability with experience using planning, ERP, reporting and visualization tools.
· Lean Six Sigma, APICS/ASCM, SCMP or project-management certification is an asset.
· Bilingual English and French
Core Competencies
· End-to-end supply chain thinking and strong understanding of planning-to-execution interdependencies.
· Advanced analytical reasoning, scenario modelling and ability to convert complex data into clear decisions.
· Operational excellence mindset with practical knowledge of standard work, process mapping, waste reduction and sustained control.
· Influence without authority, facilitation, conflict resolution and ability to align teams with different priorities and KPIs.
· Strong business and financial acumen, including trade-off management across service, inventory, labour, capacity, cost and risk.
· Executive-ready communication, concise storytelling and disciplined escalation.
· Bias for action, accountability and ability to navigate ambiguity while keeping stakeholders informed.
· Digital fluency, curiosity and commitment to simplifying and automating work.
