Sr. Accountant – Leases, Corporate Accounting

Location: Richmond, VA, USA - 9954 Mayland Drive

About This Opportunity:



The Sr. Accountant - Leases will be responsible for the accounting, reporting and analysis of the company’s lease portfolio in accordance with U.S. GAAP.  This position will work closely with key business partners across the organization including Real Estate, Financial Shared Services, FP&A, Operations, and offshore team members to ensure the completeness and accuracy of lease accounting activities and financial reporting.  The role will support the monthly and quarterly close processes, including lease accounting entries, reconciliations, variance analyses and financial reporting requirements, and will also play a key role in maintaining lease accounting controls, supporting quarterly reviews and annual audits by external auditors, and supporting FP&A partners in the annual budget and forecast update processes. 



This position will focus on continuous improvement and automation by identifying and implementing more efficient ways to collect, analyze, and process financial data.  Initially, this individual will play a key role in the MMS / NewCo separation activities, including public company readiness in advance of a future separation from McKesson, which will require agility and the ability to operate effectively in ambiguous settings with evolving processes and expectations.



Essential Responsibilities:



  • Perform monthly and quarterly lease accounting activities, including the preparation of journal entries, account reconciliations and analyses related to right-of-use (ROU) assets, lease liabilities, rent expense and other lease-related accounts. 
  • Ensure compliance with ASC 842 and company accounting policies through accurate accounting and reporting of operating and finance leases. 
  • Maintain and monitor lease accounting system data, ensuring new leases, modifications, renewals, impairments and terminations are accounted for accurately and timely. 
  • Partner cross-functionally to evaluate lease contracts and amendments and determine appropriate accounting treatment. 
  • Prepare monthly and quarterly financial schedules and analyses to be used in management reporting as well as external financial reporting.  Frequently present this information to senior management in Accounting and Finance to provide further insight into actual results.
  • Oversee the performance of various recurring accounting activities performed by offshore team members. 
  • Drive efficiencies by participating in and supporting continuous improvement initiatives, including the implementation of automation and AI tools.
  • Support the external audit process, including preparation of client-prepared schedules for the auditors, supporting SOX 404 testing, and coordination of activities related to the annual audit.
  • Participate in special projects, as assigned, including separation-related initiatives and process redesign efforts.



Minimum Qualifications:



  • Degree or equivalent and typically requires 7+ years of relevant experience.



Qualifications and Requirements:



  • 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, including lease accounting, fixed asset accounting, corporate accounting or financial reporting
  • Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration
  • CPA, or CPA candidate, preferred
  • Experience applying ASC 842 lease accounting guidance preferred
  • Experience with close execution, internal controls, reconciliations, and automation preferred
  • Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP, including ASC 842 lease accounting guidance
  • Ability to analyze lease agreements and identify accounting implications
  • Experience working with lease accounting systems and ERP platforms
  • Ability to build and maintain strong relationships
  • Ability to identify problems, conduct a root cause analysis, and present proposed solutions
  • Ability to analyze data and reports, and use the information to make good decisions and recommendations
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to communicate clearly through written, verbal, and non-verbal communication
  • Ability to complete tasks in a timely manner while balancing competing priorities, multi-tasking and interruptions; ability to manage tactical assignments while advancing long-term goals
  • Ability to use functional knowledge while serving as a resource for internal customers
  • High ethical standards and a commitment to accounting integrity and transparency

Position Level - P4

We are proud to offer a competitive compensation package at McKesson as part of our Total Rewards. This is determined by several factors, including performance, experience and skills, equity, regular job market evaluations, and geographical markets. The pay range shown below is aligned with McKesson's pay philosophy, and pay will always be compliant with any applicable regulations. $90,800 - $151,300
