About the Role

McKesson is seeking a strategic and experienced Director, Data Governance to lead enterprise-wide data governance programs that improve data quality, regulatory compliance, business trust, and operational excellence. This leader will define and execute governance strategies across data governance, metadata management, data cataloging, data quality, master data management, and data lineage capabilities.

The Director will partner with business, technology, risk, compliance, and data leaders to establish governance frameworks, standards, policies, and controls that support data-driven decision making and regulatory requirements. This role requires a strong combination of leadership, stakeholder engagement, data management expertise, and the ability to influence outcomes across a complex enterprise environment.

What You'll Do

  • Lead enterprise data governance strategy, operating model, policies, standards, and controls.

  • Drive adoption and optimization of data governance and data catalog platforms.

  • Establish and oversee data quality, metadata management, master data, and data lineage programs.

  • Partner with Risk, Compliance, Privacy, Security, and Audit teams to ensure regulatory compliance and governance readiness.

  • Develop governance metrics, data health KPIs, and executive reporting for senior leadership.

  • Engage business stakeholders to define data ownership, stewardship, accountability, and governance priorities.

  • Lead cross-functional teams delivering large-scale governance and data management initiatives.

  • Build and develop high-performing teams while fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

Basic Requirements

  • 12+ years of professional experience in data governance, data management, data architecture, analytics, compliance, or related disciplines, including 4+ years of people leadership experience.

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience.

  • Experience leading enterprise-scale data governance programs and operating models.

  • Experience implementing or managing data catalog, metadata management, or governance platforms.

  • Experience with data quality management, data lineage, data stewardship, and governance controls.

  • Experience partnering with compliance, risk, privacy, audit, or regulatory organizations.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional initiatives and influence senior stakeholders.

  • Experience defining governance policies, standards, KPIs, and reporting frameworks.

Preferred Skills/Experience

  • Master's degree in Information Management, Computer Science, Business, Data Analytics, or a related field.

  • Experience supporting regulated industries such as healthcare, pharmaceutical, financial services, or insurance.

  • Knowledge of data governance platforms such as Collibra, Alation, Informatica, Microsoft Purview, or similar tools.

  • Experience with DAMA-DMBOK principles and enterprise data management frameworks.

  • Knowledge of data privacy regulations, governance controls, and risk management frameworks.

  • Experience leading enterprise-wide data transformation initiatives.

  • Strong executive communication and organizational change management capabilities.

  • Relevant certifications related to data governance, data management, privacy, or cloud technologies.

Travel, Work Environment & Physical Requirements

  • Ability to travel up to 20% as business needs require.

  • Hybrid or remote work arrangements may be available based on business and geographic requirements.

  • Ability to participate in virtual and in-person meetings and work effectively in a technology-enabled environment.
