Senior Operations Manager (Distribution Operations)

About the Role (Job Summary)

The Senior Operations Manager leads end‑to‑end distribution center operations with accountability for safety, service, cost, and people performance. This role oversees supervisors and frontline leaders, drives continuous improvement, and ensures regulatory, quality, and compliance standards are consistently met. Operating in a fast‑paced, highly regulated environment, the Senior Operations Manager partners cross‑functionally to deliver reliable, customer‑focused operations while developing strong leadership capability across the team.

This is a people‑leader role with broad operational scope, influence across labor relations, automation, safety, and facility management, and responsibility for executing improvement initiatives aligned to business objectives.

What You’ll Do (Responsibilities)

  • Lead day‑to‑day operations for a distribution center, ensuring productivity, service levels, safety, quality, and cost targets are achieved
  • Analyze operating procedures, workflows, systems, and schedules to identify efficiency improvements and cost‑saving opportunities
  • Define, assign, and monitor responsibilities across supervisors and frontline leaders to maximize performance and engagement
  • Coach and support Operations Supervisors through performance management, feedback, and employee development planning
  • Partner with Human Resources on employee and labor relations activities, including grievances, union‑management interactions, and workforce planning
  • Promote a strong culture of safety, ensuring compliance with health and safety programs, audits, and regulatory requirements
  • Oversee continuous improvement initiatives using Lean, Six Sigma, or other process improvement methodologies
  • Maintain compliance with security, regulatory, GMP, and quality standards through regular review and audits
  • Ensure facilities, vehicles, equipment, and automation systems are maintained according to company standards
  • Collaborate with maintenance teams and third‑party vendors to support automation performance and uptime
  • Monitor customer service levels and implement corrective actions to improve delivery and satisfaction
  • Communicate operational priorities, performance, and organizational updates across all levels of the operation

Basic Requirements

  • Degree or equivalent experience. Typically requires 9+ years of professional experience and 1+ years of supervisory and/or management experience.
  • Proven experience leading teams in operational, warehousing, or manufacturing settings
  • Demonstrated experience applying Lean, Six Sigma, or process improvement methodologies
  • Experience analyzing business metrics to set targets and drive performance improvements
  • Proficient working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications

Preferred Skills / Experience

  • Experience within the pharmaceutical or healthcare distribution industry
  • Experience supporting or managing automated distribution or material handling systems
  • Direct involvement in collective bargaining or union contract negotiations
  • Advanced change management experience in complex or regulated environments
  • Post‑secondary education or a minimum of 8 years of experience in a distribution, warehousing, or manufacturing environment
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in a complex leadership or management role
  • Demonstrated labor relations and employee relations experience

Travel, Schedule, and Physical Requirements

  • Flexible work schedule to support operational needs, including occasional off‑shift or weekend support
  • Minimal travel may be required
  • Role is based in a distribution center environment and may require time on the warehouse floor

The pay range shown below is aligned with McKesson's pay philosophy, and pay will always be compliant with any applicable regulations. Our Base Pay Range for this position

$91,000 - $151,600
