The McKesson Specialty Provider Organization is seeking to add a Senior Manager of Practice Strategy to its existing team, which is responsible for assisting with planning, delivering, and implementing high-priority strategic projects that help advance US Oncology and Open Market practices. Our team conducts projects related to partnering with community oncology customers to evaluate and incubate new growth opportunities and solutions, as well as optimize and grow our existing businesses.

Position Description 

Responsible for assisting the process of individual practices to develop practice-specific strategic plans, while ensuring alignment with broader McKesson strategy, to drive profitable and sustainable network growth. Collaborate with practices and business functions (e.g., clinical, finance, payer and revenue cycle, purchasing, operations) to grow practice revenue and income through:

  • Setting practice-specific mission/vision and strategic plan to drive profitability and efficiency

  • Building and developing the discipline of strategic planning and execution within corporate and field operations

  • Supporting the execution of practice-level strategic plan as needed

This candidate must have the ability to think strategically, a strong executive presence, excellent communication skills, and the ability to partner with various teams across US Oncology and Provider Solutions. Success in this role relies on influencing in a matrix environment and building relationships within McKesson Specialty Health (and broader Corporation) business units and practice leadership teams.

Key Responsibilities

Assist with strategic planning retreat prep work and post-retreat follow-up: practice prioritization, internal prep calls, development of presentation, onsite logistics, creation of strategic roadmap.    

Support strategic plan development for multiple practices with practice and corporate leadership teams, including:

  • Evaluation of external market environment (external trends across community oncology and specific to local dynamics, implications for practice strategies)

  • Evaluation of internal practice performance (clinical, operational, financial, innovation & growth)

  • Facilitation of discussion to understand, debate, and prioritize opportunities with practice and corporate leadership

  • Assist development of practice strategy, ensuring alignment with McKesson’s Oncology strategy

  • Joint development of an execution plan for practice strategy (3-year time horizon), with goals, success factors, financial targets, investment budgets, and milestones for priority initiatives

Support execution of strategic plan, and review performance of initiatives, targets, and milestones on a bi-annual or quarterly basis. Sample initiatives include (shared ownership with relevant BU, Network, and practice leadership):

  • Help facilitate evaluation of new business opportunities (e.g., pro formas, design of “proof-of-concept” pilots for new practice models)

  • Identify best practices for operational excellence with targeted implementation across the network

Minimum Requirement

Degree or equivalent and typically requires 7+ years of relevant experience.

Education

 4-year bachelor’s degree in business or finance, or related field or equivalent experience

Critical Skills

  • 2+ years of strategy or management consulting, or internal corporate strategy function, developing profitable growth strategies (e.g., finance, strategic marketing, clinical operations).

  • 3+ years of thorough knowledge of business development practices and procedures.

  • Strong leadership skills and strategic problem-solving, with the ability to translate from broad McKesson strategy to local practice strategy to operating programs.

  • Excellent project management, analytical, and facilitation skills.

  • Ability to communicate at all levels within the organization.

  • Demonstrated track record of achieving operational efficiencies.

  • Intermediate PowerPoint skills with the ability to create presentations.

Additional Skills

  • Healthcare industry experience is a plus but not required.

  • Basic level of clinical knowledge, processes, and decision-making.

Physical Requirements

  • General office demands.

  • Occasional travel, around 25-35%. Some weekend travel is required.

This is determined by several factors, including performance, experience and skills, equity, regular job market evaluations, and geographical markets. The pay range shown below is aligned with McKesson's pay philosophy, and pay will always be compliant with any applicable regulations. Our Base Pay Range for this position

$122,900 - $204,800
