Senior Counsel will support (i) McKesson’s Global Procurement and Sourcing business unit, including all aspects of contract drafting, negotiating and maintenance with suppliers and internal customer entities, (ii) Clinical Trial Solutions business team, and (iii) MGPS’s private label pharmaceuticals business. Agreement types may include, without limitation, supply contracts, business partner agreements, consulting services agreements, quality and regulatory agreements, freight and logistics agreements and a range of intra-company agreements.

Key Responsibilities

- Commercial contract negotiation and drafting.

- Act as business partner and provide guidance on legal risks to McKesson’s procurement and sourcing entities, including observing legal trends and briefing the business functions on changes of law.

- Act as contact for McKesson’s shared service center based in Cork, Ireland, delivering proactive support on day-to-day matters and reviewing supplier agreements, such as IT, HR or consulting agreements.

- Develop relationships and act as business partner and provide guidance on legal risks to McKesson private label, including business development, finance, quality, regulatory, and supply chain planning and logistics. 

-Liaise with different corporate functions throughout the global organisation (Tax, Finance, Corporate, etc.)

- Monitor changing rules and policies that could impact the MGPS business and identify and analyze risk, with escalations as appropriate.

- Work closely with the Compliance lead and coordinate in the drafting of policies and procedures and providing updates and training to employees or leaders on on-going topics.

- Manage and supervise outside counsel supporting projects, including monitoring costs.

- Identify, analyze, research, and resolve legal and business process issues and make appropriate recommendations to business and supervising attorney.

- Consult on legal and business provisions in contracts and coordinate contract approval and enforcement of delegations of authority, as needed.

- Prepare legal presentations and present to senior business unit leaders and board members, as applicable.

- Demonstrate comprehensive understanding of McKesson business units (BUs), products, strategy, and operational model.

- Recommend and implement contracting policies, procedures and processes.

-Coordinate with colleagues to identify regulatory issues, assess business impact risk and communicate to business partners.

- Exercising independent judgment in escalating issues within broadly defined practices and policies.

- Coordinate with McKesson’s Legal teams in the U.S. to ensure global best practice is embedded into work product.

- Work with McKesson’s tax and corporate secretary teams on various governance issues.

The ideal candidate will:

- Be a solicitor or barrister with a law degree and at least 5 years post qualification work experience within the pharmaceutical, medical devices or broader healthcare industry with exposure to senior management. Experience within a large commercial law firm or in-house setting is a plus.

- Have experience and expertise in drafting a wide range of commercial contracts (in particular supply and procurement agreements).

- Have strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills, including experience working in teams and demonstrating strong teamwork. Proven ability to develop rapport and credibility across the organization, promote ideas and proposals persuasively.

- Have the ability to own specific matters or projects from beginning to end while coordinating with multiple internal teams and managing outside service providers.

- Have strong attention to detail and process and the ability to bring structure to ill-defined problems and intellectual leadership to problem solving.

The pay range shown below is aligned with McKesson's pay philosophy, and pay will always be compliant with any applicable regulations.In addition to base pay, other compensation, such as an annual bonus or long-term incentive opportunities may be offered.
