Position Description

The Sr. Director of Network Systems Engineering will provide strategic leadership for McKesson’s global network infrastructure, including data centers, distribution centers, remote locations, and hybrid cloud environments. This role is responsible for defining and executing the network engineering strategy, driving modernization initiatives, and ensuring operational excellence across a large-scale enterprise environment. The Sr. Director will lead a team of senior engineers and managers, foster innovation and collaboration while aligning technology solutions with McKesson’s business objectives.

The Sr. Director will have deep technical expertise combined with strong business acumen, capable of transforming complex challenges into executable strategies. This role oversees the design, implementation, and governance of network systems globally, ensuring security, reliability, and scalability. Responsibilities include managing day-to-day operations, driving automation, and leading network transformation programs to support McKesson’s digital future.

Key Responsibilities

·Provide strategic direction and leadership for global network engineering and operations.

·Lead and develop a high-performing team of senior engineers and managers.

·Define and execute network modernization initiatives, including automation, virtualization, and cloud migration.

·Collaborate with senior IT leaders and business stakeholders to align network strategy with enterprise objectives.

·Oversee operational excellence, including patching, monitoring, upgrades, and performance tuning.

·Establish and enforce global policies, standards, and best practices for network engineering.

·Manage allocation of people and financial resources to meet strategic goals.

·Drive process improvements and cost optimization while maintaining security and reliability.

·Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and corporate governance standards.

·Serve as escalation point for complex network issues and lead problem resolution at Level 4.

Leadership and Strategic Responsibilities

·Provides strategic direction for global network engineering, overseeing data centers, distribution centers, remote sites, and hybrid cloud environments.

·Leads a team of senior engineers and managers, fosters innovation, and aligns network solutions with business goals.

·Manages day-to-day operations, including patching, monitoring, upgrades, and performance tuning, ensuring security and reliability.

·Oversees resource allocation and enforces global policies, standards, and compliance with regulatory requirements.

Minimum Requirements 

  • Typically has 13+ years of professional experience and 6+ years diversified leadership, planning, communication, organization and people motivation skill (or equivalent experience).

Critical Skills

·12+ years of progressive experience in large-scale network engineering and operations (Cisco/Arista environments).

·7+ years of leadership experience managing senior technical teams in enterprise environments.

·Proven track record in strategic planning and execution of network transformation and cloud migration.

·Expertise in automation, software-defined networking, virtualization, and hybrid cloud architecture.

·Strong business acumen and ability to communicate technical strategies in business terms.

·Exceptional stakeholder management and influencing skills.

Education

·Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience

Master’s degree or relevant certifications (e.g., CCIE, AWS/Azure networking) preferred.

This is determined by several factors, including performance, experience and skills, equity, regular job market evaluations, and geographical markets. The pay range shown below is aligned with McKesson's pay philosophy, and pay will always be compliant with any applicable regulations. Our Base Pay Range for this position

$139,700 - $232,900
