Lead Network Engineer – Design & Engineering

Current Need

McKesson is seeking aLead Network Engineerto join theNetwork Design and Engineeringteam. This role serves as atechnical authority andhandsonleader, responsible for designing,validating, and delivering enterprise network solutions that are secure, scalable, and operationally resilient.

The Lead Network Engineer partners closely with engineering peers, operations, security, cloud teams, and delivery partners to ensure network solutions arewellarchitected, thoroughly tested, documented, andproductionready. This role is critical to sustaining the Network Design and Engineering team’s reputation as atrusted advisortoMcKessonbusiness units and technology partners.

Position Description

Key Accountabilities

  • Act as atechnical leadfor the design and delivery of enterprise network infrastructure initiatives

  • Design, test, and documentcomplex network solutionsaligned to business, security, and operational requirements

  • Lead implementation ofnetwork changes, upgrades, and expansions, ensuring stability and minimal operational impact

  • Provide deep technical oversight during delivery,validatingdesigns, configurations, and deployment approaches

  • Identifytechnical risks and design gaps early, and driveengineeringledmitigation strategies

  • Architect and deliver solutions leveragingsoftwaredefined(SDx) principlesand modern network architectures

  • Work across technologies includingAruba (CX),Cisco (Viptela, Meraki),InfoBlox, andPalo Alto

  • Serve as alasttierescalation engineer, providingasrequiredafterhours support for critical incidents

  • Analyze complex and diverse environments, developingrepeatable, standardized solutions

  • Mentor and guide engineers, raising technical depth, design rigor, and operational readiness across the team

  • Collaborate closely withsecurity, cloud, infrastructure, and operations teamsto ensure holistic and secure designs

  • Participate in technical reviews, design forums, and stakeholder discussions, clearly articulating risks, tradeoffs, and recommendations

MinimumRequirements

  • Typically10+ yearsof experience in network engineering, infrastructure, or technical network service

Qualifications

  • Advanced experiencearchitecting, implementing, and troubleshooting complex enterprise networks

  • Proven technical leadership onlargescale network initiativesin enterprise environments

  • DeepexpertiseinLAN, WAN, routing, switching,wireless,firewalls,and VPN technologies

  • Strong experience withdetailed network design, validation, and documentation

  • Handson experience applyingautomation and scriptingwithinsoftwaredefinednetworks

  • Familiarity withpublic cloud networkingconstructs (AWS, Azure, GCP)

  • Experience working withvendordeliveredandpartnersupportednetwork solutions

  • Solid understanding of delivery lifecycles, change management, and operational readiness

  • Minimum2 years’ experiencewith automation, software development, or virtualization technologies

Additional Experience

  • Experience inhealthcare, distribution, or softwareenvironments is a plus

  • Strong technical curiosity with the ability torapidly learn and evaluatenew technologies

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including technical and executive audiences

  • Demonstratedtechnical thought leadership and innovation

  • Strong interpersonal skills to build trust across engineering, operations, and business teams

  • Proven ability to exercise sound professional judgment andsecurityfirstengineering practices

  • Experience supportingalwayson,highly availableenterprise environments

  • Strong understanding of how people, systems, and processes behave during incidents or crisis situations

  • Track recordof working across organizational boundaries to resolvecomplex,highimpacttechnical challenges

Education

  • Bachelor’s degreeor equivalent practical experience

This is determined by several factors, including performance, experience and skills, equity, regular job market evaluations, and geographical markets. The pay range shown below is aligned with McKesson's pay philosophy, and pay will always be compliant with any applicable regulations. Our Base Pay Range for this position

$136,700 - $227,800
