This role offers location flexibility and is open to candidates within one of four locations: Irving, TX, Moon Township, PA, Alpharetta, GA, or Columbus, OH.

Candidates based in the Dallas–Fort Worth (DFW) area will be hired in a hybrid capacity and are expected to work onsite at our Las Colinas office a minimum of two (2) days per week, with the remaining days worked remotely. Specific in‑office days may be designated based on team needs and business priorities.


About the Role:


The candidate will join the McKesson Pharmacy Systems (MPS) R&D organization. The Senior Software Engineer will be focused on driving sound technical design and architectural guidance for the EnterpriseRx® platform, a comprehensive pharmacy workflow solution. The candidate will lead complex technical initiatives from design through delivery, applying deep hands-on expertise while mentoring peers and guiding teams through Agile ceremonies such as user story refinement, technical design discussions, and code reviews.


The candidate will partner with cross-functional stakeholders including Product, QA, and Operations to drive scalable, high-quality software delivery, serving as a technical authority for resolving complex defects and championing engineering best practices. The candidate will work with technologies including Angular, Spring Boot, SQL, Azure, Docker, and AI-assisted engineering tools. Limited travel may be required for team planning events.


Domain Focus – Security, CFM, and Shield

This role will focus on remediating security vulnerabilities and supporting microservices related to Central Fill Management and Drug Utilization Reviews.


What You'll Do:


  • Provides technical leadership for one or more software engineering teams through the full development lifecycle, defining and refining design requirements with stakeholders, architecting scalable solutions, and ensuring interoperability across services.
  • Applies deep technical expertise to solve complex engineering challenges through diagnostic analysis, operational insight, and product alignment, and codes solutions independently.
  • Serves as technical lead across one or more applications and functional areas, actively participating in technical design and code reviews.
  • Develops and reviews User Stories, and writes and executes unit and integration tests to validate functionality.
  • Remediates defects thoroughly by solving the reported problem, testing to confirm resolution, and leaving the surrounding code in a better state than found.
  • Mentors peers through code reviews, debugging, and refactoring, and establishes standards and best practices for consistency, scalability, and reliability across teams.
  • Identifies and resolves severe security vulnerabilities, contributes to secure-coding and security-by-design strategies, and ensures compliance in a regulated (SOC1/SOC2, PHI) environment.
  • Drives process and productivity improvements in collaboration with cross-functional teams including Product, QA, SREs, Architects, and Project Management, and embeds AI across the SDLC (design, code, test, release, operate).
  • Demonstrates thought leadership through technical guidance, coaching, and participation in senior-leadership discussions, and presents complex topics to business leaders and customers in Sprint Reviews.
  • Understands the retail pharmacy and clinical services domain, learning how customers use McKesson products to manage their business.

Basic Requirements:


  • Degree or equivalent and typically requires 7+ years of relevant experience.
  • Typically 7+ years of relevant software-engineering experience. Alternatively, a Master’s plus 4+ years.
  • Object-oriented software engineering and RESTful services. Strong proficiency in Java (17/21+), Spring Boot, and Gradle.
  • Experience with event-driven systems such as Kafka.
  • Microservices design and modular architecture with API-first design and integration (OpenAPI, API gateway/OAuth2). 
  • Relational databases and SQL (e.g., Oracle), and familiarity with modern data platforms such as Snowflake a plus.
  • Performance monitoring and observability (logs, metrics, traces, SLOs).
  • SDLC and Agile methodologies (Scrum/Kanban/SAFe); version-control systems and collaborative workflows. 

Preferred Skills/Experience:


  • AI-assisted development (GitHub Copilot / Claude Code) and interest in building AI capabilities such as agent orchestration/MCP and Responsible AI.
  • Cloud-native engineering on Azure (or comparable): containers, Infrastructure-as-Code, CI/CD, and progressive delivery / feature management. 
  • Modern front-end development with Angular and TypeScript for full-stack contribution.
  • Technical strategy development using real-time metrics, performance data, and incident trends, including architecture visualization (Confluence) and roadmap alignment (JIRA).
  • Manual and automated testing tools and frameworks, with secure-coding and compliance in regulated healthcare environments.
  • Ability to learn and implement new technologies and processes.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.


Physical Requirements:


  • Candidate MUST reside within one of the following four locations: Irving, TX, Moon Township, PA, Alpharetta, GA, or Columbus, OH.
  • Candidate within a 50-mile radius of Irving, TX will be required to be onsite 2 days per week.
  • Requires up to 5% travel nationwide; 2-3 times per year on average.

This is determined by several factors, including performance, experience and skills, equity, regular job market evaluations, and geographical markets. The pay range shown below is aligned with McKesson's pay philosophy, and pay will always be compliant with any applicable regulations. $126,000 - $210,000
